| Web site totally reorganized! (4/9/99) The BBS Promotion Team has been turned on it's head, and is not geared first to helping users get connected to a BBS, and second to the BBS Promotion Team itself. This is done in furtherance of our purpose, i.e., promoting BBSing. | |
| Official BBS FAQ (2/23/99) Al Lawrence of Sunrise Doors, and of the BBS Promotion Team, has be selected by the editor of the Official BBS FAQ to take over this valuable document. Al has called on members of the BBS Promotion Team to help him with this project. | |
| Future Sysops Listen Up (2/19/99) Thanks to the efforts of Techno, we now have a Future Sysops Info Pack available. If you are a prospective sysop, we offer this package of information as a guide to what being a sysop is all about. Download | |
| Master of our Domain! (2/19/99) The BBS Promotion Team's new domain has been fully deployed, and our web site mirrored to the new site. Thanks to Brian Tafoya for volunteering to host our domain and web pages. The web page can now be seen at http://www.bbs-promotion.org, and will be maintained at the current mirror sites as well. The absolute most current copy of the web page will be at http://www.fanciful.org/bbs-promotion, as this is where the pages are developed. | |
| What a Month! (2/19/99) It's hard to believe that it took almost a month to get my ISP problems resolved! But, we are back at full strength now. Apologies for the inconvenience! -- Tom Lebens | |
| Discussion of Y2K (1/6/99) The Team is presently engaged in a discussion of the affects of the Year 2000 on BBS'ing, and in particular how we can help support and transition those sysops who may be operating with software that is not Y2K compliant. | |
| Listserver Move Nearly Complete (1/5/99) The BBS Promotion Team Listserver move from onelist.com to fanciful.org is nearly compete. Andy Brown (1:202/800) has agreed to manually strip message headers from messages posted to the listserver before they are passed through his hub to BBS_PROMOTION. We are working on other solutions to this issue that will be automated, including working with Hector Santos of Santronics to implement header stripping in WINS and PXWin. | |
| Planned move of BBS Promotion listserver (12/29/98) Stay tuned for information on a planned move of the BBS Promotion Team listserver to the fanciful.org server. This move is needed to allow the gating of this listserver to the BBS_PROMOTION echo, as well as to allow users to sign up without web access. | |
| Future Sysop Info Pack (12/28/98) The Team has taken on a project of preparing an info pack for prospective sysops, in order to help new sysops enjoy the hobby of BBS'ing in an entirely new way from that experienced by callers. | |
| Region 10 and Region 13 REC's make request and BBS_PROMOTION added to the backbone (12/27/98) It's official, we have a Fido echo on the backbone, and are working on our Fido-listserver-QWK Network gateway, which will allow all BBS's, regardless of whether they are on the Internet, Fido, neither, or both to see all messages travelling through the BBS Promotion Teams echo/listserver/conference. We hope you will add BBS_PROMOTION to the echoes you download. | |
| Additional Projects Discussed (12/22/98) The Team has been discussing two additional projects, both a user disk that can be distributed to prospective users, and an info pack file that can be distributed to prospective team members. | |
| Region 18 REC makes request (12/21/98) The Region 18 REC has made a request that the echo BBS_PROMOTION be added to the Fido Backbone! Upon the request of one more REC, our new echo should be added. The Net 202 NEC has requested that the Region 10 REC make such a request, and we are now waiting. If you have contact with your REC, PLEASE ask him or her to request that BBS_PROMOTION be added to the backbone. We do, however, expect the Region 10 REC to come through, as he is probably out of contact during the holidays. | |
| Koon makes progress on the Fido Conference (12/11/98) This weekend the BBS_PROMOTION conference should show up in Z1_BACKBONE. When it does, please express your support for adding it to the echomail backbone! | |
| Name Decision Made (12/4/98) We are now "officially" the BBS Promotion Team! | |
| Ed Koon asks for input on Fido conference (12/1/98). Do we need a Fido conference? Should we create our own? Should it be gated to our listserver? These are all questions that need to be answered as soon as possible. So, please post your thoughts to the listserver ASAP, as we need to start to move beyond all the administrative/formative stuff and get onto the important work of promoting BBS's. | |
| Todd Cochrane calls for vote on name (11/30/98). Enough already! Todd has taken the initiative of calling for the votes on our official name. Once opinions are voiced, we will adopt our new name, and move forward from there. So, please make your preference known! | |
| BBS Promotion Team website mirrored again, and again. (11/25/98). See our additional mirror sites on our mirror page. | |
| Happy Thanksgiving! (11/25/98). Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope tomorrow finds you with lots for which to be thankful. | |
| BBS Promotion Team website mirrored (11/25/98). As a backup plan, this site has now been mirrored to http://www.loveland.dynip.com/bbs_promote. Thanks to Gary Brosius for for providing this service. Both sites should contain the same information, as we will be updating the above site each day the "primary" site is updated. So, use whichever you prefer. Also, if you would like to mirror this site too, please send e-mail to tom.lebens@fanciful.org. | |
